Holmes quit on Jets

The New York Jets slim playoff hopes were dashed in a loss to the Miami Dolphins, but the actions of wideout Santonio Holmes seemed to be the bigger story afterward.

Running back LaDainian Tomlinson was quick to throw Holmes under the bus, saying he didn’t have a good demeanor in the huddle and other players weren’t happy about it.

Holmes could be seen sitting on the sideline for much of the second half, not even attempting to join his teammates on the side of the field to watch the game.

However, head coach Rex Ryan said that he thought Holmes removed himself from the game, which creates more confusion as to what really happened. ( Read More…)

Jets edge Cowboys, 27-24

The New York Jets benefitted from some major mistakes late by the Dallas Cowboys to pull out a 27-24 victory.

First, the Jets recovered a Tony Romo fumble at their own one-yard line to avoid going down by two touchdowns.

New York then blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown to give them hope in the final minutes.

After intercepting a Romo pass, the Jets were able to kick the game-winning 50-yard field goal with just seconds to play. ( Read More…)

Jets sign Maybin

The New York Jets have signed defensive end Aaron Maybin, who was recently cut by the Buffalo Bills.

Maybin is a former first round draft pick from back in 2009 who has floundered in his two NFL seasons.

The Jets must see something in Maybin or simply think he is worthy of a second chance.

Knowing head coach Rex Ryan’s ego and defensive background, he probably believes he can turn Maybin into a quality NFL player. ( Read More…)

Jets sign Burress

The New York Jets came seemingly out of nowhere to sign wideout Plaxico Burress to a one-year contract worth just over $3 million.

Burress said that, while the money was certainly a factor, he decided to sign with the Jets because of his relationship with head coach Rex Ryan.

The wide receiver said he felt really comfortable with Ryan and liked how he knew he could walk into his office anytime to talk about football or life.

The New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers were thought to be the favorites to land Burress but did not offer him as much money as the Jets. ( Read More…)

Jets re-sign Holmes

The New York Jets have a ton of free agents to sign, but their top priority was bringing back Santonio Holmes.

The Jets have managed to accomplish just that, signing the big-play wide receiver to a five-year contract.

New York knew that Holmes would be in high demand once he hit the open market, with the Washington Redskins, among others, ready to open up the checkbook.

Holmes won countless games for the Jets last year with last-second heroics, helping them reach the AFC championship game. ( Read More…)

Tomlinson to return in 2011

The New York Jets plan on bringing back veteran running back LaDainian Tomlinson for the 2011 season.

Tomlinson was crushed following the team’s loss in the AFC championship game to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He received most of the playing time at running back for much of the season until he faded down the stretch.

The Jets then turned to the younger, stronger Shonn Greene, who ran well throughout the postseason. ( Read More…)

Jets cut Woody, others

The New York Jets are the most active team so far this offseason after cutting Damien Woody, Vernon Gholston and others.

Woody was the most notable player released by the Jets, once being one of the top guards in the league.

Gholston’s release is also drawing a lot of attention, and it officially lands him on the draft bust list.

The Jets also released two more quality defensive veterans in Kris Jenkins and Jason Taylor, but it’s still possible they could return. ( Read More…)

Jets to franchise Harris

The New York Jets do not plan on losing linebacker David Harris to free agency and will place the franchise tag on him.

Harris was voted the Jets MVP this season by his teammates after recording 99 tackles and three sacks.

In his fourth season, Harris has established himself as the leader of the defense despite the presence of fellow linebacker Bart Scott.

The Jets have made it know that signing Harris is a priority, and they hope to use the franchise tag to work out a long-term deal. ( Read More…)

Tomlinson plans to return in 2011

New York Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson plans on returning to the team for the 2011 season.

Tomlinson said he is still heartbroken over his team’s loss in the AFC championship game but is not thinking about retirement.

He said that he knew how badly his family and the fans wanted a Super Bowl to come true, and that it was his dream.
